The Quimper Storytelling Guild monthly 3rd Sunday Story Swaps.
Listeners, those new to storytelling as an art form, as well as aspiring and seasoned tellers are encouraged to welcome. The afternoon event from 2:30 to 4:30pm, held at Port Townsend LIbrary Learning Center at 1256 Lawrence Street, includes short stories by up to 7 tellers as well as activities and discussion to enhance the craft of storytelling.
Up to 7 attendees can share a story; there is one 15 minute spot for a longer prepared story; the other 6 stories are limited to 5 minutes each. Those wishing to tell are encouraged arrive at the beginning and sign up when they arrive. Each teller has the option of listeners to “feed the story” or “feed the teller” for a couple minutes after their telling. In this way listeners get a couple of minutes to either highlight noteworthy element / character / moment of the story, OR what about the way the teller enhanced the conveying of the story. Stories are told, not read; use of character voices, gestures, music, and props to enhance the telling of a story are welcomed. First half hour is for planning and socializing.
Launched in March 2017, the Quimper Story Guild is organized by locals to foster an appreciation for the art and tradition of storytelling in our Jefferson County communities. The group meets on the third Sunday of every month.
